Local MSP Visits West Lothian College Eco House

Local MSP for the Linlithgow Constituency, Fiona Hyslop, visited the Eco House at West Lothian College on Friday 3rd November.

The Eco House, formally known as the Alex Linkston Skills Centre for Sustainable Living, is part of West Lothian College’s contribution to achieving Scotland’s net zero ambitions.

Following the visit, Fiona commented:

“I had an excellent visit to West Lothian College’s Eco House with College Principal Jackie Galbraith, with a tour from area manager Steven Morrison.

“The Eco House is unique in Scotland and is the first to have two houses, one completed to low carbon standard and another unfinished for developing high-level practical skills required to achieve low carbon house standards.

“Funding from the Scottish Government’s Place Based Investment Programme for West Lothian was used to cover the cost of Construction of the Eco House and this training facility is a great example of how we can train local people to meet the skills demand we will see in the coming years as part of Scotland’s transition to Net Zero.

“The Eco House will be used to upskill the current workforce in sustainable construction skills and create a future pipeline of skilled workers in this field. In the first year over 500 young people will gain practical experience in the Eco House.

“West Lothian College are also running public information sessions in the Eco House to allow locals to see how the technology works and could be applied in their home.

“I am pleased to see this fantastic facility in West Lothian and wish all of the students training there in its first-year well in their studies.”
