Fiona Hyslop Welcomes Transport Minister to West Lothian
Local Constituency MSP, Fiona Hyslop invited the Minister for Transport and Islands, Humza Yousaf MSP to West Lothian to show the Minister West Lothian’s many transport links.
Fiona drove the Transport Minister from the new railway station in Armadale, through the A801 Avon Gorge Road and passed through the Winchburgh Development.
Fiona commented;
“As well as the new Forth Crossing scheduled to open later this year and two of the busiest roads in Scotland (the M8 and M9), I also have two of the most used train lines running through my constituency. and I was pleased to have the opportunity to discuss local transport matters with the Minister this morning. (8th March)
“I took the Minister to see the A801 Avon Gorge Road and explained to him the dangers of HGVs driving on this road and that there has been a near 100 year campaign to provide a road link over the Avon Gorge. It was initially planned that this upgrade would take place after improvements on the M9 had been completed, estimating a delivery for work to start on the A801 in 2021. He expressed to me that the Avon Gorge Road is the only local road on the Scottish Government’s Strategic Plan.
“I was also pleased to show the Minister the progress of the new Winchburgh Development, plans for which include a railway station to be added to the town. I also took the opportunity to speak with the Minister about the concerns that have been raised with me by Winchburgh residents regarding the proposed new flight path routes which may impact the town.
“It was very worthwhile to be able to have these discussions with the Transport Minister whilst being in the constituency and able to show him first hand the transport links and infrastructure we have in West Lothian.”
