Local MSP for the Linlithgow Constituency, Fiona Hyslop, promotes roles for women in the rail industry, in her capacity as Minister for Transport. Fiona joined the Scottish Women in Rail team for a panel discussion on ‘Diversity is the Key to the Future Success of Rail’ event on 6th September and attended a reception with ASLEF Scotland to celebrate reaching 100 women driver members of ASLEF in Scotland on 7th September. Fiona Hyslop Welcomes Free Childcare Expansion

Local Constituency MSP, for the Linlithgow Constituency, Fiona Hyslop, has welcomed the announcement made in the First Minister’s Programme for Government on 5th September whichseesa commitment from the Scottish Government to expand access to funded childcare. The First Minister also committed to providing funding to ensure staff in the private, voluntary and independent sector who deliver early learning and childcare are paid a minimum of £12 an hour from April next year, plans to recruit 1000 additional childminders by the end of the Parliamentary session and is bringing forward legislation to ensure the right structures are in place to help make Scotland the best place in the world to be educated. Commenting on the current issue facing the UK Government and their own responsibilities for policy and funding of schools in England with identified Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC), Fiona Hyslop said, “West Lothian Council and other Councils across Scotland are well ahead in identifying and planning remedial works and ensuring the safety of children. I contacted the Education Secretary in the Scottish Government back in June this year about general school building support which would assist West Lothian Council in addressing the issues, particularly at St Kentigern’s Academy in Blackburn, though I am aware that other schools have been affected.” ENDS

Ian Macleod Distillers was founded in 1933 by Leonard Russell and has remained a family run distillers for four generations, producing world class premium Scottish Whisky, Gin and Rum.
