FIONA HYSLOP ANGRY AND DISAPPOINTED WITH VION DECISION
LOCAL MSP WELCOMES RECOVERY PLAN ACTION
Commenting on the situation at Hall’s of Broxburn, following confirmation that parent company Vion have rejected two bids to take over the plant meaning it is set to close, local MSP Fiona Hyslop expressed her disappointment at the outcome.
Ms Hyslop welcomed the swift action of the Scottish Government who announced a recovery plan for West Lothian immediately after the confirmation from Vion.
She said:
“I have continually pressed Vion to co-operate with credible bidders, but it appears they have been unable to strike a deal.
“This is body blow for Broxburn and I share the disappointment and anger that is felt in the community.
“I have already spoken to my colleagues in the Scottish Government and I know that the workers at Halls have the full support of the government and the taskforce. The recovery plan for West Lothian announced this afternoon is a vote of confidence in the workforce and a sign of the support that the government will be making available.
“I also attended a meeting of community groups last week which discussed different ideas to support the local community and economy. We must contiunue with this and everyone must work together.
“I will work tirelessly with all those with an interest in the future of Broxburn.
“This is a strong community and we have come through adversity before and we shall do so again – I know how people will fight back and rebuild our local community
“Now, more than ever, we must pull together to help those affected by the closure and to create new opportunities for the area.
“My thoughts are with the workforce and their families who are facing real difficulties at this time. I want them to know that I will do all I can to assist them.”
