Local MSP for the Linlithgow Constituency, Fiona Hyslop, has welcomed the announcement that projects in West Lothian will receive £48,000 from the first round of grants from the Scotland Loves Local Fund.
The funding, announced this week, is supporting over 100 organisations, who will receive a share of the £1.5 million funding boost to help revitalise cities, town centres and neighbourhoods across Scotland. They will encourage support for local economies which were impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and help restore local tourism, make town centres more environmentally friendly and sustainable, and support communities to refurbish shop fronts and public spaces ahead of the festive season.
In West Lothian, funding was awarded to three different organisations. Green Action Trust in Broxburn has been awarded £20,000 to support the creation of a new community park on an underused grassed site and the delivery of an accessible path network and range of environmental enhancements. £20,000 was also awarded to One Linlithgow and Linlithgow Community Development Trust, who are collaborating to support local businesses and community groups and promote the love local message via an outdoor market and development of the town’s website, mylinlithgow.com. Broxburn and Uphall Development Group, who contribute towards the creation of a community garden, create a central place for community activity, and promote mentally and physically healthy activities and food growth education, among many other endeavours, received £8000.
Commenting, Fiona said:
“I am delighted that projects in West Lothian are going to benefit from £48,000 from the first round of grants from the Scotland Loves Local Fund.
“After the past year and a half, this will really help spur on many of the projects in West Lothian which are vital to unlocking the innovation and action which will make our communities stronger. Each of the organisations in West Lothian who were awarded this funding are doing excellent work, and I am very pleased to see them receiving this support.
“This kind of action reinforces the Scottish Government’s determination to support West Lothian as we recover from the pandemic – helping make sure we create a fairer, healthier, greener, inclusive and more sustainable economic recovery.”
